More than a month after a brutal stabbing that left him hospitalised, Andrew Jackson identified his alleged assailant Delroy Thomas after seeing him on television newscast’s court round-up.
Thomas was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charge of felonious wounding.
The particulars of the charge is that on November 7, at Sophia the Thomas wounded Jackson with the intent to cause the man grievous bodily harm. The accused was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by acting chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
In presenting the police’s case to the court, prosecutor Lionel Harvey said that on the day in question Jackson and Thomas were travelling in a minibus when an argument ensued and the accused threatened the man.
Harvey further stated that Jackson disembarked the vehicle when he reached his destination and as a result Thomas attacked him with a knife and dealt the man several stabs about his body. The prosecution highlighted that Jackson was hospitalized due to the injuries he sustained.
The prosecutor added that on December 13, while looking at Court Round-up on MTV Channel 65’s News Update, Jackson saw the accused and later reported to the police that Thomas was the man whom committed the alleged wounding.
Harvey objected to bail on the grounds that Thomas would not return to court if he is placed on bail. The Magistrate subsequently informed Thomas that he was remanded to prison until the matter is called again on December 19, at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
