Two men who allegedly stole over $1M in cattle from a woman were released on bail after they were charged at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court yesterday.
Ivor Rodrigues, 28, a pork knocker and John Peters, 20, were charged with the simple larceny of 11 cows, which were the property of Gloria Johnson.
Rodrigues was charged for two offences, allegedly committed on June 2 and November 24. Peters, meanwhile, was only charged with the June 2 incident. Both offences were committed at Central Rupununi.
The men, who pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them, were represented by attorney Subas Ganesh, who made successful bail applications.
No details of the cases were presented to the court by the prosecution.
The magistrate granted Rodrigues $100,000 bail, while Peters was placed on $50,000 bail.
The matter was transferred to the Lethem Magistrates’ court.
