SYDNEY, Australia, CMC – Dwayne Bravo played a small role in a seven-wicket victory for the Sydney Sixers in the newly-established Big Bash League Twenty20 over the Brisbane Heat yesterday.
The Trinidad & Tobago and West Indies all-rounder grabbed one wicket for 20 runs from two overs, as the Brisbane Heat reached 139 for eight from their allocation of 20 overs after choosing to bat in the tournament opener at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Bravo failed to get a knock, as Australia wicketkeeper/batsman Brad Haddin struck 76 to lead the Sixers to victory with eight balls remaining.
Haddin struck five fours and five sixes from 59 balls and was the dominant partner in a second-wicket stand of 79 with Nic Maddinson to put the Sixers firmly on course for victory before he was dismissed off the last ball of the 18th over with seven required for victory. Earlier, Bravo had out-of-favour Aussie all-rounder James Hopes, the Heat captain, caught at long-off for 18 in seventh over, as Brisbane’s batting failed to fire and Daniel Christian’s 32 was the top score.
Bravo is on a short-term contract with the Sixers before returning home to represent reigning champions T&T in the Caribbean T20 Championship.
The Sixers have about four matches to play before Bravo leaves a few days before T&T’s opener in the CT20 against Windward Islands on January 9 at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.
