Those injured included the driver of the car Vickram Ajudhya, passenger Rick Singh, 22, as well as Sandria Jacobs, Alexis Jacobs, and Eon Fraser.
The accident occurred at about 11:20am, as the minibus, which was heading West along the public road collided with the car, which was about to turn into the adjoining University of Guyana road. The driver of the car, according to witnesses, failed to stop at the amber traffic light, thereby causing the collision.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the car ran the amber traffic light while the minibus was also driving through.
Singh, who was in the front passenger seat of the car, said that he and others were going to the University of Guyana for an examination that was scheduled for 11am.
Jacobs, who was seated in the third seat of the bus when the collision occurred, said, “The car was wrong, because the driver supposed to stop at the light but he speed he way through.”
She, however, added that “the minibus was driving down the road with one speed.
All I see is de bus speed ’cross the traffic light and de car speeding ’cross too. Before you know it, is ‘Bam!’ And the bus started to topple over and over.”
She added, “I was speaking to my husband ‘Eon” (who was seated next to her) asking him for the money to pay the bus. By the time I bend down my head to take it out, I heard everybody screaming for their lives. Next thing I know is the bus toppling on the road.”
Jacobs sustained lacerations to her right foot, but gave praise to God for her safety, adding that she was happy to be alive. She also gave praise to the police officers who arrived promptly on the scene.
The injured were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where they received treatment.
Meanwhile, a mother of six was admitted as a patient at the GPH, following an accident along the Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara, late Friday night, when the driver of a minibus lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a drain.
Injured is Savitri Latchman, of Lot 41 Crane New Scheme. The woman suffered a broken leg and her hip was said to have been dislocated.
When approached at the GPH, her family was reluctant to give any details of the accident.
