The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) football team has withdrawn from the Banks DIH Banks-Beer sponsored tournament which is being run by the Georgetown Football Association (GFA).
According to reports reaching Stabroek Sport, a letter coming out of the office of Chief-of-Staff Commodore Gary Best informed the GFA of the latest development.
No reason was proffered by the army for the withdrawal.
Stabroek Sport tried to get comments from several members of the GFA but was told on each occasion that they were not prepared to speak on the matter at this time, but would do so at the right time. But a source close to the GFA said that the two bodies are scheduled to meet this morning to iron out the issue.
The Banks Beer sponsored tournament is being contested by 15 teams that are under the umbrella of the GFA including defending Kashif and Shanghai champions Alpha United.
