Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry further remanded a Brazilian national charged with uttering a forged document and conspiracy to commit a felony, when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The allegation is that on November 30, at Ogle International Airport Nadir Perez Quaresma uttered a Brazilian passport with a forged Guyana extension work permit stamp to an immigration officer. The 39-year-old miner pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him at court.
The court also heard that between October 4-13 with the intend to defraud, the accused conspired with persons unknown to forge one Republic of Guyana extension or work permit stamp falsely showing that it was issued by the Guyana Passport Office. The accused pleaded not guilty after the charge of conspiracy to commit a felony was read to him.
Prosecutor Jairam Luckhai said that on the day in question the Brazilian was travelling to Lethem when he presented the document to an immigration officer who discovered that the work permit stamp in the passport was false. The matter was immediately reported and the man was taken to the Eve Leary police headquarters where he was charged.
The matter would be called again today.
