National player Walter Moore scored for Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA’ to help them defeat the Defence Force in the Digicel Trinidad and Tobago Pro League Friday night.
Playing at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Trinidad, Moore scored Caledonia AIA’s second goal on the way to their 3-2 defeat of the Defence Force.
Defence Force, which after being confined to military duties for the past three months due to the State Of Emergency, finally got a chance to kick of its title-defence.
But within five minutes of the kick-off, Caledonia had the “Teteron Boys” on the backfoot and a goal behind when midfielder, Ataulla Guerra, a transfer window addition by coach Jamaal Shabbaz last week, fired the Morvant/Laventille-based club ahead with his second goal in two matches.
It did not get any better for Defence Force who were without key defensive duo captain Corey Rivers and left wingback Aklie Edwards as Caledonia doubled its lead in the 25th minute via Guyanese international Moore, who also re-joined the club last week after a spell in the USA.
On the resumption, Defence Force came out a rejuvenated bunch and 53rd minute strike by Richard “Shaka” Roy, reduced the deficit.
However, Caledonia did not drop its head and regained its two-goal cushion via Devon Jorsling in the 67th minute for a 3-1 advantage.
It was the second goal in two matches as well for Jorlsing, who netted on debut for his new club in a 2-1 win over W Connection on Tuesday.
Despite trailing 3-1, Defence Force took the match to Caledonia and with two minutes left in the match, Roy got his second for a 3-2 score which set up an interesting final few minutes.
In the end, Caledonia managed to hold on for a deserved win while handing the “Teteron Boys” a defeat in its opening match of the season, something it did not suffer until the final few rounds of matches last year en-route to its record 19th national title.
With the win, Caledonia improved to nine points, from seven matches, the same as Adams Construction San Juan Jabloteh which has a match in hand.
