Finger rape case for CCJ

(Jamaica Observer) The case involving Shanique Myrie, the Jamaican woman who was sexually violated by Barbadian customs officials, will be brought before the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice early next year.

Attorney Anthony Hylton, told the Observer that he will be representing Myrie during the hearing.

“Yes we will be going to the CCJ,” Hylton said.

Myrie complained bitterly that a female customs officer finger raped her and verbally abused her before locking in a cold, damp room overnight. The woman claims she was shipped out of the eastern Caribbean island.

The issue drew howls of condemnation from Jamaicans and threw the spotlight on the treatment meted out to Jamaican and other Caribbean

nationals by Barbadian officials at the Grantley Adams Airport.

Myrie, who had to undergo counselling after her ordeal, is also scheduled to visit that country to point out her alleged abusers
