An 18-year-old man who allegedly inflicted grievous bodily harm to a girl was yesterday placed on $40,000 bail after he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to the particulars of the charge, on December 9 at Georgetown, the accused Keron Hinds of 299 Soufriere Street, North Ruimveldt, maliciously and unlawfully inflicted grievous bodily harm to Altera Lixey with intent to maim, disfigure or cause her grievous bodily harm.
The young man pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Prosecutor Lionel Harvey in presenting the police facts to the court said that the two parties in the matter are students at the Government Technical Institute (GTI). He added that on the day in question, the VC was on Lamaha Street when the defendant used indecent language to her and told her to “mind your own business” because she was making peace between two other persons.
As a result the defendant became annoyed and dealt the girl several cuffs causing her to suffer injuries. The prosecutor added that the injured VC reported the matter and the defendant was later charged.
After listening to the facts the magistrate placed Hinds on bail as well as a bond to keep the peace while the matter is pending.
The matter will be called again on January 9.
