A couple was yesterday placed on self-bail after they appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer the charge of assault causing actual bodily harm and unlawful and malicious wounding.
According to the particulars of the charge, on December 19 at North Road, the accused Trevon Edwards wounded Dawn Roberts. The man pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to himby acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Roberts on the other hand was charged for assaulting Edwards so as to cause him actual bodily harm. The woman pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to her.
Attorney-at-law George Thomas in his successful bail application informed the court that Roberts is 39- years-old and resides at Lot 10 North Road. He pleaded for reasonable bail for her stating that the woman had suffered a sound beating from the man whom she once shared a relationship with.
In presenting the police facts, Prosecutor Lionel Harvey told the court that the two parties had a heated argument which became physical. Additionally, the prosecutor said that Edwards took a cutlass and dealt the woman several lashes about her body. The injured Roberts, however, grabbed a chair and inflicted several lashes about her ex-partner’s body.
After stating the facts the prosecution had no objection to bail but asked that conditions be imposed. The duo was informed by the magistrate that they were being granted self-bail and placed on a bond to keep the peace while the matter is pending.
The matter will be called again on January 9.
