Police on Wednesday discovered and destroyed eight fields of marijuana plants during drug eradication operations at two locations in the Berbice River, but an arrest is yet to be made.
According to a press release, while conducting the operations at Gateroy and De Veldt in the Berbice River ranks discovered a total of eight fields of marijuana plants, approximately 18 acres in size.
There were about 85,000 marijuana plants ranging in height between one and ten feet.
In addition, 18 nurseries and 500 kilogrammes of dried cannabis were found and destroyed along with the marijuana plants.
Fourteen 12-gauge cartridges were also recovered in an abandoned camp.
