Romeo Jones, 24, an MMC security guard who was charged with killing accused battery thief Kwesi D’Andrade on January 31 last year was committed to stand trial in the High Court after a prima facie was made out against him for the charge of manslaughter.
The ruling was read yesterday by Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on January 31 last year at Eping Avenue, Bel Air Park, Georgetown, Jones unlawfully killed D’Andrade. Jones was not required to plead to the charge of manslaughter when it was read to him.
On the day in question, the police prosecutor told the court, D’Andrade was arrested by other MMC guards at the Eping Avenue location for stealing a battery. While in custody, the prosecutor said, D’Andrade attacked Jones. The accused, according to the prosecutor, then allegedly shot D’Andrade.
