Victoria Kings and Bakewell Buxton Stars were the latest teams to record victories when action in the 22nd annual Kashif and Shanghai tournament continued on Wednesday evening at the Beterverwagting (BV) ground.
In game one, a Jamal George strike in the 57th minute propelled Bakewell Buxton Stars to a slender 1-0 victory over home side BV Triumph. This was the Buxton Stars’ second consecutive victory in the knockout competition after they had defeated Den Amstel 2-1 in Uitvlugt on December 18.
On Boxing Day in Linden, the Buxton Stars will face Amelia’s Ward who knocked out established side Western Tigers.
In game two, a high scoring encounter ended with Victoria Kings toppling Grove Hi Tec 3-2. The Victoria goals came in the 17th minute via an own goal and in the 25th minute from Winston Pompey and Sherlock Dowden in the 65th.
Scoring the two goals from the defeated Grove unit was Damini Garnett in the 41st minute and John Matthews in the 55th.
Grove Hi Tech will play the winner of the Christmas Day clash in Blairmont between Trinidad side Caledonia AIA and New Amsterdam United at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground, Bourda on December 28.
Action in the competition continues today with a double header in Linden. Firstly Seawall FC will tackle Milerock then Barbados side Caribbean United will face Winners Connection.
