A carpet binder employed at Kissoon’s, collapsed and died yesterday morning at his workplace at Industrial Site, Ruimveldt Georgetown.
Dead is Roopchand Bilbadan, 58, of Lot 140 North West, Grove Housing Scheme.
The man’s co-worker, Edward Subryan, who was with him when he drew his last breath, said Bilbadan arrived as per normal at 6:30am. The man continued that he left to go into the sewing room and upon his return he was given a requisition and so he began chatting with the deceased about it.
“All I see is he head bow down and I run round deh to he and by time I reach he hand drop to he side and he get he last breath,” Subryan recounted.
He explained that his colleague was sitting at the time of the incident, but he [Subryan] called some other workers for assistance in moving Bilbadan onto the table nearby, where they attempted to revive him, “but like he de done gone.”
Subryan said that on the morning prior to the incident and the days leading up to his death, Bilbadan was in good shape and never complained of feeling sick. He also did not smoke or drink.
The man’s son, Robin, related to Stabroek News that his father suffered from hypertension and diabetes which he said were all under control.
He added too that in May of this year, Bilbadan underwent a surgery for kidney stones, which was successful. Though his death comes as a surprise to all his relatives and friends, Robin said he along with other relatives believe that it was due to natural causes, “but the police gotta do their work.”
At the time of his death, Bilbadan had been an employee at Kissoons for twenty years, where he and Subryan were in charge of the carpet sewing department. He leaves to mourn his wife Bisoondei Bilbadan, with whom he resided, and Robin; his only child. His body is currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination, scheduled for Monday.
