A businessman was shot yesterday after a robber on a motor bike attempted to pull him out of a minibus on Mandela Avenue and the police later wounded a suspect in the attack during a confrontation at Eccles.
A statement from the police today said that at about 1100h yesterday businessman Rasheed Wahab, 44 years of Sandy Babb Street, was in a mini-bus that had stopped at the traffic lights at the junction of Water Lily Street and Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, when two men on a motor cycle rode up alongside.
Police said the pillion rider, who was armed with a gun, went to the front passenger door and attempted to pull Wahab out of the vehicle during which the driver of the mini-bus drove off. The police said that the armed man then fired a round which resulted in Wahab suffering a graze wound to his chest.
Following up on the investigations into this matter, police say that at about 1650h yesterday ranks went to Second Street, Agricola, EBD, in search of suspect Terrence John called ‘Johnny Dog’, 29 years of Flour Mill Road, Eccles, EBD, who is also a suspect in a number of other robberies.
The police said that as ranks approached John they came under fire and returned fire hitting him to his right leg. An unlicensed .32 pistol with six rounds and one spent shell has been recovered.
John has been admitted a patient under guard at the GPHC, while Wahab was treated at a private hospital and sent away.
