The VB New Approach General Construction Company awarded workers for outstanding service, while its Christmas party provided a forum for political banter where the proprietor renewed his pledge to source contracts only through the proper channels.
Entrepreneur Vishnu Bandhu told the gathering at his Vreed-en-Hoop office that he had pledged to a former president that he would not offer any tokens to anyone to secure road or other contracts and that he intends to hold fast to this promise. He also appealed to businessmen to honour their contracts and to remember that they have a commitment to the communities in which they work.
In a brief statement, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, who attended the function, remarked that Bandhu appeared to have given up politics which was what attracted him back to Guyana, but he was pleased that he had instead opted to become an entrepreneur.
Bandhu was loud in his praise for his workers who he said were employees as well as friends. He said his company is built on integrity and his employees’ commitment is responsible for his tremendous success in less than two years of operation. Several workers received both monetary and certificate awards for their outstanding service in areas such as carpentry, masonry as well as for their punctuality and readiness to respond to situations. Bandhu also remarked that employees who failed the ‘acid test’ were given their marching orders.
