The Oldendorff Bauxite Company helped to make over 400 children happy for the Christmas season when they treated them to lunch, goodies and presents at a fun day in New Amsterdam on Tuesday.
In all, over 700 persons benefited from the event which was organized mostly for employees and their families at the All Saints Ground and lasted from 10 am to 4 pm.
During this time persons were engaged in playing games while being entertained by live music. The children had fun on the merry-go-round and were treated to ice cream after lunch.
Captain Zachariah El Dib told this newspaper the company had also packed 100 food hampers worth $6,000 each to distribute to families in depressed communities like Angoy’s Avenue in time for Christmas.
He said too that they would have also distributed toys to several children from three orphanages in the town and to the inmates of the Dharm Shala.
Meanwhile, the company has always been involved in other charitable activities in an effort to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
He pointed out that every 18 months, the company would ship a container from Holland with items including clothing, footwear and bicycles to distribute.
His wife Antje, who is from Holland, told this newspaper that they are grateful that a charity organization which runs a ‘second-hand’ store – Muttathara – in that country would provide them with a quantity of items.
She said she and Captain Zachariah would be travelling to Holland next month and they looked forward for further assistance from the organization that has done over 39 projects around the world, including building schools.
