The relatives of Karen Reid, the beer garden owner who was killed on Christmas Eve, are puzzled about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Speaking with Stabroek News yesterday, the slain woman’s brother Denroy Reid revealed what he was told by the neighbour who made the gruesome discovery. Reid said the woman related that she went downstairs to change a $1000 in order to give a postwoman some money as a Christmas present.
He said the woman said that she kept calling for the proprietrix and upon receiving no answer, she ventured into the shop, where she found Karen Reid lying in a pool of blood. Though she lives above the shop she had said that she had heard no noise coming from downstairs.
On the day of the incident, the woman had declined to comment.
Reid said that neither he nor any of the other relatives expected Karen to die the way she did, “but you gotta expect the unexpected in life”.
On Christmas Eve morning, Karen Reid’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds in a room aback the beer garden where she lived. The room was also found to be ransacked.
A post-mortem-examination is expected to be performed on the woman’s body today and burial is expected to take place on Saturday in Essequibo, from whence she hailed.
