A Guyana and Trinidad Mutual, Fire and Life Insurance Agent is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) after he was shot in the leg during a foiled robbery attempt on Christmas Eve Day.
Injured is 57-year-old Andrew Correia of ‘D’ Field, Sophia.
The man, from his hospital bed, said that around 8 pm that evening, he was distributing calendars on behalf of GTM in Sophia.
He noted that his first stop was made in ‘A’ Field where everything went well. As he continued into ‘B’ Field, Correia said, he stopped at a client’s home where he stayed a few minutes to chat.
The man said that as he was leaving, he noticed two suspicious looking men walking along the road towards him. This, he said, prompted him to throw his bag, which contained calendars and $1000, into the client’s yard.
Correia said the men approached him and one of them pulled a gun and shot him to his left leg. He continued that his client, upon seeing him injured, ran out to assist him but by then Correia was already in an unconscious state. He was subsequently rushed to the hospital.
Correia stated that he did not understand the motive of the men.
According to a police press release, the men managed to escape.
