Crime Chief Seelall Persaud yesterday said that he is still awaiting a directive from acting Police Commissioner Leroy Brummell on the sexual abuse probe against Top Cop Henry Greene.
Brummell is currently acting in Greene’s stead, after the Commissioner proceeded on leave to facilitate the investigation.
The government has also indicated that it would seek external help with the probe, which stems from a complaint lodged against Greene by a woman who has alleged that she was sexually abused by him.
Persaud, meanwhile, when questioned about the international bodies that have been asked to assist in the investigation, further stated that “the government is dealing with that.”
The woman, a 34-year-old mother of two, stated that the assault occurred on November 22 at a city hotel. She said that she sought Greene’s assistance in retrieving a mobile phone which the police had taken possession of in a matter she had been involved in.
She alleged that after promising to assist her in retrieving her mobile phone, Greene drove her to a hotel in the city, where the assault allegedly occurred.
The woman also alleged that after the incident Greene threatened her against telling anyone or visiting a medical institution or doctor in connection with the matter. She said that he had been calling her for several days from a mobile number, which she provided as 699-0870. She said that Greene wrote the number at the back of his card and told her that only government officials knew the number.
The woman said that several days after the incident, another senior police officer called her mobile phone and requested her to meet with a senior government functionary at the Office of the President to discuss the issue but she declined. She said that the police officer told her that she should visit the government functionary alone “with no family or anybody.”
