Magistrate Hazel Octave Hamilton placed an occupant of the Night Shelter on a six-month bond to keep the peace after he threatened to kill a female orderly at the facility.
The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court heard that on December 24, at Georgetown, Ravi Michael Kemraj used threatening language to Kelmattie Shaw. The man pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him in court.
Prosecutor Jairam Luckhai told the court that on the said day, Kemraj returned to the shelter intoxicated and the orderly petitioned for him to leave the facility, saying he had contravened the shelter’s rules. Kemraj then abused Shaw and threatened to kill her.
In his defence, Kemraj told the court, “Your worship I am guilty. I am sorry and I promise that it would not happen again. I was a little high at the time… but I ain’t threatened to kill her.”
The magistrate cautioned Kemraj that despite it being the festive season he must adhere to the shelter’s rules. After being placed on a bond to keep the peace, he thanked the court repeatedly for the favourable ruling.
