AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, CMC – ICC Associate nation The Netherlands have suffered a double blow ahead of the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship next month.
The Dutch national side will be without key all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate and leading batsman Tom Cooper due to other commitments.
Coach Peter Drinnen said he was not too perturbed by the loss of their two leading players and felt there were adequate reserves.
“The group has prepared exemplarily for the tournament in the Caribbean,” said Drinnen. “A bonus is that we have some players in foreign leagues, like Timm van der Gugten, who recently made his debut for New South Wales.
“All 14 players are looking forward to two months of intensive high-level cricket. In about three months, we will play in the World Twenty20 qualifier for a place at the World Twenty20 next September in Sri Lanka.”
The 14-member squad will be led by Peter Borren and the Netherlands will face Jamaica, English county side Sussex Sharks, Combined Campuses & Colleges and co-hosts Barbados in Group B of the tournament.
The CT20 opens on January 9 in Antigua.
