BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Heavyweight amateur champion Anderson Emmanuel was granted bail and spent Christmas with his family.
Anthony Jones, president of the Amateur Boxing Association of Barbados, stood as surety for the boxer and he was granted US $10,000.
The prized fighter had to surrender his passport however, and will also be required to report to a police station three times a week as a condition of his bail.
“I feel good to know I’m going back home to spend the holidays with my family,” he said. “I’m innocent of this charge and I’m just happy to be going home.”
Emmanuel, a Commonwealth, Central American and Caribbean Games, and Pan Am Games medallist, was remanded to custody earlier this month for stealing jewellery worth close to US $7,500 and cash around US $1,500 last July.
He is scheduled to return to court on January 17.
