A man who allegedly used a pair of scissors to rob two persons of their phones and cash was yesterday remanded to prison
The accused Bryan Heywood was not required to plead to armed robbery charges after it was read to him by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The particulars of the charges stated that on December 27, at Croal Street, Heywood robbed Kayshandat Singh of a Nokia cellular phone and cash, estimated to be $22,500 in total, by using scissors to demand the items from her. It was also alleged that on the same day, he robbed Leon Singh of his Nokia cellular phone along with cash, estimated to be $21,000 in total.
No details of what had transpired on the day of the incident was presented to the court, however, the prosecutor Gordon Mansfield highlighted to the magistrate that Heywood was apprehended by public-spirited citizens and as a result he was handed over to the police. The prosecutor further objected to bail, given the seriousness and the prevalence of the offence.
Afterwards, the magistrate remanded Heywood to jail until the matter is called again on January 25.
