Police have released the man held in connection with the New Year’s Day murder of De Willem, West Coast Demerara pensioner Bebe Jahooral Banu, who was discovered in the bottom flat of her home.
Banu’s eldest daughter, Salima Ibrahim, said that the police released the man and told them that he is not a suspect. They also took a statement from her and gave her a written document to sign.
“It’s a shame that the police have no one in custody… I really don’t know what’s going on?” she said.
Banu, 66, was discovered at around 3pm on January 1 at her Lot 5A De Willem North home. When they arrived, the police discovered the woman’s dentures and wristwatch outside of the apartment, which indicated that there may have been a scuffle outside the apartment. The woman was found with her stockings, pants and underwear below her knees, her top pulled up and a cloth around her throat.
A post-mortem is expected to be conducted today and police are awaiting the results to proceed further.
