A post-mortem examination conducted on the remains of New Year’s Day murder victim Bebe Jahooral Banu yesterday revealed that she died of manual strangulation, according to her daughter Salima Ibrahim.
Ibrahim also said that the De Willem, West Coast Demerara woman’s family was informed by a detective that two more persons were taken into custody and they are assisting with investigations. She added that the family has also been told that at the time of the murder, three men were consuming alcohol at the corner of the street.
The Police had initially held a man for questioning but released him on Tuesday, telling relatives that he was not a suspect.
Banu, 66, was discovered at around 3pm on January 1 at her Lot 5A De Willem North home. When they arrived, the police discovered the woman’s dentures and wristwatch outside of the apartment, which indicated that there may have been a scuffle outside the apartment. The woman was found with her stockings, pants and underwear below her knees, her top pulled up and a cloth around her throat.
She will be laid to rest today.
