The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the treason charges against Guyana Defence Force Major Bruce Munroe, his wife Carol Ann Munroe and ex-soldier Leonard Wharton continued yesterday with former Guyana Defence Force Lieutenant, Quincy Critchlow recalled to give further evidence.
The matter was adjourned to January 12.
Yesterday, the courtroom was filled with many observers who were seen seated impatiently for the PI to commence.
However there was a late start owing to a lack of electricity.
Finally, acting chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry read the charges which state that the trio is accused of treason, that between December 1, 2009 and December 16, 2010, at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, they intended to levy war within Guyana to force the president out of his office, in order to compel the Government of Guyana to change its measures.
Outside the courtroom, activists, including Mark Benschop, columnist Freddie Kissoon, trade unionist Lincoln Lewis, Mayor of Georgetown Hamilton Green and AFC member Gerhard Ramsaroop among others were seen picketing.
Some of the slogans were “Free the treason accused” and “Guyanese people demand the release of treason accused” among many others.
