The relatives of three missing Guyanese sailors yesterday met with the authorities and were assured that all steps are being taken to locate the men and the vessel the MV Oliver L.
Missing are captain of the cargo ship, Wexton Andrews, called ‘Mampy,’ 33, of Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara; Ramdat Roopnarine, 38, of Lot 483 Zeelugt, West Coast Demerara and Claude Burnette, also of the West Demerara area. The vessel left Trinidad and Tobago last Wednesday and should have arrived in Guyana around Christmas.
The relatives of the men met Works Minister Robeson Benn at his office in Kingston yesterday and according to Joan Maloney who shared a union with Burnette, Benn informed the men’s relatives that the maritime organizations are working around the clock in their attempts to locate the men.
She said he also noted that the Trinidadian and the Venezuelan authorities are also “fully involved” in search efforts undertaken to find the men while aerial and marine exercises are being carried out to locate the trio and the vessel.
Maloney, who has several children with Burnette, said that she has been checking with the man’s employer for information regarding the situation.
Search efforts have intensified over the past several days to locate the men and the vessel.
