The police now have the suspect they were looking for in connection with the murder of 74-year-old Mahaica farmer Ramlogan Singh, called ‘Tun Tun’ in their custody assisting with investigations.
Singh was discovered dead in his home by his grandson on December 18, with his hands and feet tied behind him and to a piece of cloth tied tightly around his mouth.
A relative told Stabroek News that the police had taken the man into custody since Tuesday evening and they were told by the police that they were in the process of confirming finger prints and interrogating the suspect.
“We tell the police why they don’t use the fingerprints in Gecom system to confirm the one they have since it is possible that they might get a match if the killer was registered,” the relative said.
They are still awaiting a response to their suggestion from the police.
The police had initially detained five persons for questioning as it relates to their investigations but they have been released and his relatives said that the same day the five men were released there was a robbery in the area.
A post-mortem examination conducted on the remains revealed that he died as a result of manual strangulation and his home was ransacked but the man’s relatives said that they did not see it as a robbery since he had other valuables and only money was taken.
