The management and staff of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) welcomed ten new medical interns for year-long training in several of its departments.
Guided by GPHC’s Consultants, Registrars and Heads of Departments the interns will be trained in paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, ortho-paedics, internal medicine, general surgery, psychiatry and anaesthesia, a press release said. Each intern will be evaluated in areas of attitude, knowledge, practical and cognitive skills and must complete and present a research paper during this period. The group, comprising four males and six females, was presented with copies of the Hippocratic Oath (both conventional and modern versions), the corporation’s terms and conditions of employment, its vision and mission statements, the goals, objectives and values of the hospital. The doctors-in-training are Yogeshwar Ramcharan, Varun Budhram, Soarah Khan-Deonarayan, Sarah Frometa, Elizabeth Nickram, Arona Matadeen, Dorette Husbands, Natoya Fraser, Kumar Sukraj and Tony Madray.
They were briefed by hospital CEO Michael Khan, Nursing Director Audrey Corry and a few other senior staff who advised them about the level of professionalism, integrity and positive attitude needed for their prospective career.
