I just read with great disappointment the news that Guyana will not be fielding a team in the upcoming T20 tournament in Antigua due to the current controversy involving the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and the Government of Guyana. What a shame!
I am not fully apprised of the facts surrounding the controversy. However, I am of the firm view that no controversy, no challenge and even a court order should result in the denial of our young cricketers an opportunity to participate in this important tournament. Further, Guyana’s image is at stake here.
All the parties involved in this current scenario must ensure that Guyana is represented at the tournament. I am surprised that Clive Lloyd would be involved in a process that would occasion our young cricketers not being able to earn an honest living. Lloyd should be among those seeking to ensure young players receive all the encouragement they can get, rather than be frustrated by administrative bungling.
Perhaps this is an issue for which the APNU Youth Arm may consider “taking to the streets” since it is a genuine issue that impacts Guyana’s youths and our international cricketing image.
