Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted a 29-year-old miner $200,000 bail when he appeared in court charged with stabbing a man to his abdomen after he had refused to buy him an alcoholic beverage.
The Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court heard that Jarel Seecharran, of Canal Back, Port Kaituma, on December 21, at Water Front, Port Kaituma allegedly unlawfully and maliciously wounded Delon Roberts with the intent to maim, disfigure or cause him grievous bodily harm.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge of felonious wounding when it was read to him.
In narrating the facts to the court, Prosecutor Jairam Luckhai said that on the night of the incident, the VC and his friends were at a disco where they were consuming alcoholic beverages. Seecharran then allegedly petitioned the VC to purchase an alcoholic beverage (stout) for him but the man refused. The defendant then became annoyed and allegedly stabbed the man to his upper left abdomen.
The man was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged.
The prosecutor told the court that Seecharran was identified by persons who were in the disco as the perpetrator.
He was then arrested and charged.
Seecharran was ordered to appear in the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrates’ Court on February 8.
