A 25-year-old father of two was yesterday stabbed to death by a male relative during an argument involving money around 9 am.
Orin Anthony Forde, of Lot 12 Helena Number One, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, was stabbed to death by his cousin at an abattoir where they were both employed. The cousin has reportedly since been arrested and is in police custody.
According to eyewitnesses, the men were heard arguing outside the abattoir before the 17-year-old cousin ran inside and returned armed with a black-handled knife.
“De two cousins had a fight and we part them… Then another cousin turn to meh and all I hear them holler is watch.
He [cousin] been coming with a knife and I see something coming out he [Forde] belly,” Linden McCordy, an eyewitness, told this newspaper.
McCordy further stated that as everyone was concerned about the injured man and proceeded to render him assistance, no one realized when the cousin made his escape.
The dead man’s brother, Jermaine Forde, who was also present at the time of the incident, said his brother cried out to him for help as he attempted to cover the wounds to the left side of his abdomen with his shirt. The man’s intestines were said to be protruding.
“The only thing meh brother holler is ‘Jermaine come, the man juk me’ and I run and I hold he up and meh brother ain’t say nothing more,” the man stated.
He explained that he and his mother made their best effort to have Forde quickly transported to the Mahaicony hospital but the man died while being taken there.
Relatives indicated that Forde was a miner in the North West District and had returned home after four years to spend Christmas with his family.
“He come out de bush and he just went catching he hand there but he don’t really work there,” a family member said.
They explained that he had borrowed $6,000 from his alleged murderer and had agreed to pay him back with $4,000 interest.
However, the deal was broken after Forde only repaid what was borrowed and this sent the cousin into a rage.
“Orin was supposed to go back in the interior Sunday and like he [cousin] de wan de money before he go away,” a female relative said, adding that the dispute over the money had been ongoing for the past couple of days. “[The cousin] threaten to kill Orin long now,” she said.
