Dear Editor,
The newly-appointed Attorney General has many minuses against him, among which is the fact that he is a Junior Counsel and within living memory it has only been Senior Counsel who have been appointed to the office of Attorney General.
The Attorney General will have to sever his connection with his law firm since he could not be seen to be involved, directly or indirectly, with the litigation or other affairs of the firm.
Governmental legal work is valued at millions of dollars and should be tendered for and equitably distributed.
There are many formulas to ensure this happens, but one of them could be having the Bar Association become a watchdog or creating a committee comprising the Bar Association and the parliamentary parties to work with the AG’s office in the allocation of governmental legal work.
Yours faithfully,
R Edmonds
