The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) threatened to take the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to court over Guyana’s exclusion from the upcoming Caribbean T20.
The WICB on Friday admitted Guyana into the tournament after a three-way meeting between the regional Board, the Guyana Cricket Board (BCB) and Guyana’s minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony.
But the Express learned that WIPA had threatened to take legal action on the matter if Guyana were debarred from the competition, in an effort to stop the tournament. WICB were given until 2 p.m. on Friday to respond.
Court proceedings, however, were unnecessary, as the involved parties were able to come to an accommodation that allowed Guyana the chance to reclaim the title they won in 2010.
The matter is just the latest in a series of legal wranglings between the WICB and WIPA.
Just a month after WIPA filed a successful injunction to stop the Board from terminating the Memorandum of Understanding/Collective Bargaining Agreement, which expired on November 30. (Trinidad Express)
