Three masked men on Saturday night entered the Big G general store on the University of Guyana Access road and robbed the owners of a quantity of cash while several customers were assaulted.
According to the police, at approximately 8:25 on Saturday night three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered the Big G Store and held up sales attendant Sharon Gomes and took away $175,000 and two cell phones. The men later escaped.
The police said that as the perpetrators left the store they stopped motor car PKK 7909 which was proceeding along the roadway and took away the vehicle from the driver after assaulting him about his body. The three men then escaped in the stolen vehicle and a waiting motor car.
The stolen motor vehicle was recovered around midday yesterday at ‘B’ Field, Sophia.
While the owners of the entity were still coming to grips with the ordeal when this newspaper visited yesterday, persons at the business entity told this newspaper last evening that the men assaulted several customers while the robbery was being committed.
Two persons sought medical attention for cuts they sustained to their heads during the ordeal which lasted less than 10 minutes.
