UG to send 15 athletes to Barbados relay fair

The University of Guyana is currently preparing to send a team of athletes to the 2011 Barbados Relay Fair on February 11.

UG Sport Coordinator Lovern Fraser said the athletes have been identified and are currently in training. The team is expected to participate in the men’s 4×100, 4×400 metres and medley relay events while the ladies are expected to contest the 4×400 metres relay event and the discuss throw.

While Fraser could not give details about the full squad, the team is expected to comprise 15 athletes from both the Turkeyen and Tain campuses who will be named by January month-end. National Sprinter Kenneth has been named coach of the team.

The team is expected to field the Schools Nationals under-16 200 and 400 metres record holder in Carlwyn Collins, 2011 Inter-Guiana Games 3000 metres silver medallist Alexis Williams, former national sprinters Ian Campbell and Elton Bollers along with two time Inter-Guiana Games double sprint champion Treiston Joseph.
