Police at the Central Police Station at New Amsterdam, Berbice, are probing a report that US$4,900 (around $1M) was stolen from a bag which was left in the office of the officer-in-charge of the station.
Reports revealed that an Assistant Superintendent whose office is located at the Central Police Station, left the bag with the money and went a short distance away on Monday afternoon.
Two persons were left in his office.
On his return at around 16:45hrs, the officer discovered that the money was missing. Several persons were questioned but no useful information has been received so far.
According to police sources, on December 24 last two traffic cops had their Blackberry phones stolen as they were cleaning their offices at Traffic Headquarters in Berbice. The men had placed their handsets valued $107,000 on a table and on completing the task, the mobile phones could not be found. Investigations are continuing.
