U.S. President Barack Obama has sent a congratulatory message to President Donald Ramotar on his victory at Guyana’s general and regional elections on November 28, 2011.
The Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a release that in this latest congratulatory message from a foreign Head of State, President Obama in correspondence to President Ramotar, commended the people of Guyana for their enthusiastic, peaceful and responsible participation in the democratic process and said he looks forward to the partnership between the two countries.
“I look forward to working with you and your new government to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the United States and Guyana, and to promote our shared goals of democracy, security and prosperity throughout the region,” President Obama is quoted as saying.
The Second Meeting of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) that convened in October 2011 was among the latest in the partnership endeavours between the two countries. CBSI is an initiative launched by President Obama in Port of Spain in 2009 to help Caribbean governments address the full range of security challenges facing the region.
During the two-day CBSI forum held at the Guyana International Conference Centre at Liliendaal, partnering states focused on law enforcement, information sharing, cooperation and capacity building, crime prevention and maritime security cooperation, GINA concluded.
