The Guyana Cricket Board has sent a congratulatory message to the Christopher Barnwell-led national Twenty20 cricket team for its victory over the Leeward Islands at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Monday night.
The Amazon Conquerors conquered the Leeward Islands by five wickets in their opening encounter of the Caribbean T20 series.
“The Board notes the unity and cohesion that emanated from the team on the field of play and urge the team to remain positive and to, once again, make the Golden Arrowhead proud by winning the tournament, “ the message from the GCB stated.
According to a press release from the GCB the team responded to the message.
“We have been made aware of the support shown for us at home and by our citizens based here, and it is the fuel that drives our engine, we wish to thank the Guyana Cricket Board for representing us and ensuring we got the opportunity to play.”
The team was scheduled to have an intense practice session at the Factory ground yesterday afternoon, and will have practice sessions everyday of the week which have been organized through the kind offices of the West Indies Cricket Board.
The team indicated despite the victory, they have already focused on Friday’s clash with Trinidad & Tobago.
“The Guyana Cricket Board has had to rely on its umbrella body to provide support for the team, an unaccustomed position for the usually well organized team, and are proud of the performance of our players, who have had to overcome 16 days of worry en-route to their first game,” the GCB release stated.
“We urge all those who love this game to give support to these brave men who have kept the Golden Arrowhead flying proudly and with distinction,” the release added.
