Several persons sustained minor injuries about their body following a mid-afternoon accident along the East Coast Public Road after a car slammed into the back of a Route 50 minibus.
Pamela Thomas and Nordita Griffith who were passengers of the minibus, BLL 488, driven by Shradhanand Gansan sustained head injuries while others suffered bruises and lacerations to their bodies.
According to the driver of the minibus, who was proceeding in a westerly direction along the public road, he applied the brakes after he noticed a cow lying in the lane he was driving in.
“Me see a cow de in de road… so meh slow down and press on de brakes… de car then blam into the back of de bus.”
Some of the passengers also said that the car was speeding along the road, noting that this was the main reason for the collision. Driver of the car, HC 19, Tekaran Sarabgeet, on the other hand said that his vehicle had stopped at the traffic light along the East Coast Public Road and he was waiting for the light to “change green” so that he could proceed. He added that after he drove past the light, the minibus made a sudden stop in the outer lane in which he too was driving. “The driver stop suddenly…I couldn’t stop my vehicle.” When this newspaper visited the scene the police were taking reports on the accident.
