Dear Editor,
It is indeed with a heart filled with regret that I learned of the death of Dr Moti Lall, who for years served the Guyanese community and more recently the West Demerara community with distinction. Without a shadow of a doubt, Dr Moti Lall was the best chest doctor ever to grace Guyana with his presence.
For some time now, he had not been enjoying the best of health. Despite this setback, however, he maintained the posture that his patients came first. It was no surprise to those who were privileged to get close to him, that Dr Moti Lall was quite prepared to bear the pain and suffering and voted instead to try and bring relief and comfort to the suffering patients instead.
There were days when this patriot while experiencing the pains of a mortal would have his wife drive him to his clinic at Vreed-en-Hoop on the West Coast of Demerara simply because he wanted to be of service to his people and he did not want to turn his back on his patients.
No doubt since he was a member of the Arya Samaj movement and stuck to the ten principles distinguishing the movement, by his deeds he continually helped humanity faced with the discomfort of ill health.
Journalists and other regular attendants at Parliament recalled the days when Dr Moti Lall attended Parliament, and the tremendous contribution he made to the National Assembly. He became a member of this august body in 1992, the year when democracy was restored in Guyana.
Some 15 years ago he underwent a heart by-pass. It is difficult to associate death with Dr Moti Lall, but the time has come. We must in the midst of our sadness remember that the Lord requires of him a role that is beyond this planet, Earth.
Those who benefited from his expertise at the TB clinic from its inception in 2000 will no doubt understand my feelings at this time. The workers at V B New Approach General Construction join with me and my family in expressing our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family on his passing.
Yours faithfully,
Vishnu Bandhu
