(Jamaica Observer) Two men have been charged by detectives in Westmoreland for the December 27 murder of a man and injury of three others during a Jamaica Labour Party rally in Savanna la Mar.
They have been identified by police as 29-year-old Dermott Williams and Oshane Ranking, 18.
Police report that 20-year-old Daniel Campbell was cut down in a hail of bullets after three gunmen walked into the meeting and opened fire catching many cops who were on duty off guard.
Two women were among the three persons injured. One was listed in serious condition due to internal bleeding while the other woman was hit in the leg.
The meeting was being held in downtown Savanna-la-Mar near the sugar warehouse and the shooting was first thought to be politically motivated but police later reported that the shooting was linked a gang war between the two main gangs in the parish, the Bobo gang and the Hot Roses gang.
Williams and Ranking were held a day after the incident during a curfew that was imposed the day after the shooting. They are to face the court on January 17.
