John Percival’s brilliant all-round performance spearheaded Courtland All Stars to a 74-run victory over Chesney in the continuation of the 2011 New Building Society Second Division 40-Over cricket competition in Berbice on Thursday at the Chesney ground.
Percival scored 60, which included six fours and three sixes, in his team’s 165 all out in 29 overs before returning to capture 6-17 from 5.4 overs in the Zone G encounter; Mahesh Budhoo took 4-25 and Anesh Deonarine snared 3-23.
Chesney could only muster 91 in their reply as Courtland All Stars advanced to the round of 16.
In Zone M, No.64 Fighting Marines also advanced to the round of 16 when they defeated No. 65 by 30 runs at the No. 63 ground.
Fighting Marines, batting first, racked up 148 in 27 overs with Jason Itwaru (29) and Seon Persaud (26) being the principal scorers. Kumar Chandordat took 2-12 for No. 65. In reply No. 65 made 118 in 28 overs with Deo Balram top scoring with 29.
Itwaru grabbed a five-wicket haul to finish with figures of 5-36 while Ravin Abbensetts supported with 2-15.
Courtland All Star and No. 64 Fighting Marines won their last preliminary matches to end unbeaten in their respective zones.
At Woodley Park, Woodley Park Young Strikers defeated No.7 Silver Park by four wickets. No. 7 Silver Park batted first and made 103 in 30 overs. Julius Nurse was the main wicket-taker with 3-9 while Joshua Hamid took 2-19.
Woodley Park Young Strikers in reply made light work of their target and cruised to 104-6 in just 17 overs with Jailall Chandilall scoring 26. Devon Jacobs had 2-20 and Tameshwar Chattergoon captured 2-21.
At Kendall’s Union, Fyrish beat Kendall’s Union A by 50 runs. Fyrish batted first and were bowled out for 160 in 25.1 overs with Javed Mohamed (49), Munilall Shivdyal (35) and Karamchand Shivdyal (27) being the top scorers.
Albert Budhoo had the best figures of 4-11 and Steven Ramlochan chipped in with 2-38. In Kendall’s Union A at the crease they were dismissed for 110 in 23 overs with Brian Baker scoring 27.
Munilall Shivdyal had 4-10, Asraj Ghannie, 3-12, and Aishnarine Shrikissoon, 2-20.
