In tribute to Sonia Noel’s 15th year in fashion, the executive of Guyana Fashion Weekend (GFW) will host an event at the Duke Lodge, Kingston, on January 19, featuring 15 models in a 15-minute fashion capsule. In addition, Sonia’s 15 favourite culinary delicacies will be highlighted.
According to a press release, this year will also see Sonia launching the Sonia Noel Foundation for Creative Arts (SNFCA). The foundation will have as its mission to explicitly foster and promote youth empowerment and sustainable development initiatives within the industry. “The SNFCA will also parlay the burgeoning activity of the creative arts to network related associations within the multi-lingual territories of the Caribbean,” the release said. Over the last decade, it said, creativity has become one of the driving forces of sustainable development initiatives of international economies, facilitating non-traditional income generation.
Sonia already has under her belt, GFW with its impressive 5-year run and its ambitious move to a bi-annual, developmental programme (it will next be held in 2013); the reality television series Designer/Stylist Portfolio and Guyana Model Search, which features upcoming designers, budding stylists and aspiring models; as well as the talk show Diatribe.
Sonia has been honoured for her outstanding dedication to fashion and its adjuncts, in the region by the U S Virgin Islands Fashion Weekend and recently she contributed to Mission Catwalk, a Jamaican reality television series designed to unearth and develop fashion talent.
