The Youth Ministry on Friday received a Land Cruiser from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the vehicle will be used to ensure the proper monitoring of adolescent youth friendly spaces around the country.
Assistant Direct of Youth, Davenand Ramdatt received the keys to the vehicle at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport from Assistant Representative, UNFPA, Patrice La Fleur, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a press release.
La Fleur said the vehicle was provided for the monitoring of the adolescent youth friendly spaces, an initiative that commenced years ago. Initially, only two communities were involved, but that has now expanded to 10 spaces.
These spaces provide a variety of information to youths, and some of them have been assisting in managing the activities of the spaces all of which are equipped with computer labs, peer educators, parents and other coordinators to ensure the workshop is functioning effectively, the release explained.
“We have spaces in Regions 1,3,4,5,6,7 and 10 and have encountered some challenges on the monitoring and evaluation of the spaces and so this vehicle handed over today is with the intention that the Ministry of Culture and Youth will be able to use the vehicle to improve and enhance the monitoring of the spaces.”
This vehicle would also be beneficial as it relates to the improvement of water and sanitation to persons living in remote areas, the release concluded.
