Police say that at about 1455h on Sunday January 15, 2012, goldsmith and businessman Abdul Khan, 36 years of Cornelia Ida, WCD, was attacked and robbed by two men on a motor cycle, one of whom was armed with a firearm, at Hydronie market, EBE.
Investigations, according to the police, revealed that Abdul Khan had completed selling and was about to enter his motor vehicle when he was held up by the men who took away a bag with gold and silver jewellery valued at $4.7 million, along with a gold weighing scale and goldsmith tools and escaped.
A quick response by the police acting on information received led to the arrest of two men who were waiting in motor car PHH 8006 which was parked in a bushy area at Orangestein, EBE, police said.
Subsequent investigations and surveillance conducted by the police led to the arrest of the two perpetrators and the recovery of a quantity of gold jewellery in a house at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, yesterday Monday January 16, 2012, the police said.
The motor cycle, CD 5115, which was used in the robbery, was also recovered hidden among some bushes at Orangestein, EBE.
The men are all in custody as the investigations continue.
