Another road accident at Amelia’s Ward highway has left a resident of Linden in a serious condition at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC).
Richard Reynolds, 54, of South Lane Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie sustained two broken legs, lacerations to the head and multiple bruises and cuts about the body after he was hit by a speeding Route 72 minibus.
The incident occurred shortly after 3 pm yesterday and according to several eyewitnesses Reynolds aka ‘Squarer’ had disembarked a short-drop Amelia’s Ward/Mackenzie minibus along the highway in the vicinity of Lovers’ Lane and was about to cross the road when he was struck by the Route 72 bus. “He just jump out from the same bus with we, stink a rum, and the next thing I see is he pitch pass we bus and everybody start screaming,” one eyewitness said. De driver connect to he brakes but he was going so fast that ‘Squarer’ paste onto the front of the bus and never fall off till the bus stop a good distance from where he get pick up,” the man said.
At the time the Route 72 bus was filled with passengers bound for Mahdia, all of who were horrified by the incident. “He [Reynolds] came out of nowhere. There was nothing we driver coulda do but apply to brakes but it was too late,” said one of the passengers.
Because of the impact the windscreen of the bus was smashed and passengers including the driver sustained minor injuries.
