Reconnect with your child through exercise

Hot Momma’s advice: Healthy minds and healthy bodies go together! Get learning and get moving!

With the new school term off and in motion, it’s a great time of the year to focus on establishing good habits! It’s important for your child to have regular sleeping, eating and study routines to keep his/her mind at ease and focused. One important factor that can really improve or hinder daily aspects of your child’s mental health is his/her physical health. My Hot Momma always stresses the importance of keeping the body active so that the mind will stay active too! Here are some ideas on how to get moving with your child!

Walk it out!

Walking is a healthy activity for your body and mind. It’s a great opportunity for you and your child to connect through talking and relieve stress through activity. Setting up a regular walking schedule (before work and school, or after) would be a great way to work on your relationship and keep your body fit! Just remember the Guyana sun is HOT! HOT! HOT! so please plan accordingly!

Shake that body!

And not just wine! Blasting some tunes in the morning or evening and dancing around the house is a great way for you and your child to get moving and show each other your best moves. Whether it’s to the radio, a CD, or a movie, music is a great energizer and dancing makes it even more enjoyable! There are great workout videos such as Hip Hop Abs or Zumba (which is Hot Momma’s personal favourite because it’s so sassy!) that have you move to the music and really work up a sweat! Dance it up with your child and free your mind and body of stress!

Stretch!

Stretching is usually the most overlooked part of an exercise routine, but it is also the key element to a healthy body. Keeping your joints and muscles relaxed through daily morning stretches before breakfast, such as touching your toes, rolling your neck, and elongating your spine will help keep your body strong and agile. Yoga is a form of exercise that incorporates strength, meditation, and stretching to keep your mind and body fit!

These are just a few ideas on how you and your child can bond and get moving and learning. It’s important as a parent to exercise not only for yourself but also for your children’s benefit. If your children never see you engage in fitness or if they hear you complain about working out, then they are going to have a negative image of exercise. My Hot Momma always told me that she was working out to stay healthy, to be strong and to have more energy and stamina so she could do better at work and play!  Help yourself and your child’s body and learning by getting moving with him/her today!
