A man accused of calling a family on their telephone and conducting vulgar conversations was yesterday admitted to bail in the sum of $25,000 after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The allegation against Mohamed Mohamed is that between October 1 and 31, 2011 he made calls from his cell phone to the landline phone of Prandy Bispat, Jamal Kadjoe and Bibi Khan and conducted vulgar conversations of an obscene nature to their annoyance.
The labourer who resides at 5B Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, denied the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai told the court that because of the calls the defendant was making to the complainants, a request for the printed records from the GT&T was made which led to the police investigating the matter after which Mohamed was arrested and charged.
After listening to the case, the presiding magistrate informed the accused that bail was being granted on the condition that he abstains from communicating with the virtual complainants and to be of good behaviour.
Additionally, he was placed on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.
The matter was transferred to the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court for January 23.
